Aries Cerat — DAC
Heléne
A bit-perfect ladder DAC setting new benchmarks in analogue realism.
The Heléne is a testament to the Aries Cerat philosophy of placing maximum performance above all other considerations. Borrowing heavily from the flagship Kassandra series, this bit-perfect ladder DAC completely eschews data processing, upsampling and oversampling. All data is converted at its native sample rate, preserving the absolute integrity of the original digital signal.
At its core lies a matrix of eight Analogue Devices AD1865N-K R2R converters per channel, running in current mode and managed by custom logic. This digital precision is mated to an over-engineered, tube-rectified analogue stage functioning as a small single-ended triode amplifier. Such an uncompromising approach ensures that the delicate conversion process is protected from noise and jitter at every stage.
The resulting sound is characterised by an extraordinary sense of realism and natural flow. By combining reference-level digital conversion with a bespoke super-tube output, the Heléne delivers a deeply engaging, organic presentation. It is a digital front end designed specifically for purists who demand the harmonic richness and dynamic scale typically reserved for premium analogue sources.
Key Features
01
Bit-Perfect Conversion
Utilises eight Analogue Devices converters per channel in a parallel matrix, operating strictly at native sample rates without upsampling or oversampling.
02
Single-Ended Triode Output
The analogue gain stage operates as a small amplifier built around the E280F super tube, loaded by a custom wideband output transformer.
03
Super-Clock Technology
Features an internal, bypassable clock for the digital inputs, providing femtosecond-level jitter attenuation without requiring external hardware.
04
Tube-Rectified Power Supply
The analogue stage relies on a GZ34 tube rectifier and triple choke-filtered capacitor banks to provide ultra-low noise voltage rails.

Chapter 01
Digital Architecture
In designing the Heléne, Aries Cerat implemented a sophisticated current to voltage stage. Because the converter banks run in current output, a special transformer with a custom ultra-high MU core is used to directly modulate the bias circuits of the analogue tube stage. This purist approach ensures no loss of micro-dynamics or low-level detail during the critical conversion phase.
All incoming digital signals benefit from double reclocking, handled by the proprietary internal logic. This entirely bypasses the limitations of standard digital receivers, resulting in a perfectly timed data stream that feeds the R2R matrix.

Chapter 02
Power & Isolation
Despite being the brand's most accessible digital offering, the Heléne is an absolute heavyweight. The massive chassis houses meticulously segregated power supplies for the digital and analogue sections. Large toroid transformers and extensive RF choking filters are distributed throughout the circuit to eliminate cross-contamination.
The analogue section takes this a step further with its own dedicated triple-filtered, ultra-low noise bias circuits. This ensures the super tubes operate in a completely silent environment, allowing the DAC to render the blackest backgrounds and the most explosive dynamic swings with ease.
