The Pondera represents a milestone in Aries Cerat’s pursuit of absolute preamplification. Returning to a concept first explored over a decade ago, this two-chassis instrument introduces the second generation of NOIES (Negative Output Impedance Energy Source) technology. By turning the traditional relationship between the power supply and the gain stage on its head, it creates a completely unfettered path for the delicate audio signal. At the heart of the Pondera is a pure, single-stage single-ended triode circuit using high-transconductance supertubes from the E280F family. Instead of a standard passive power supply, this stage is fed by the active NOIES modulator. This ensures that when the active stage requires dynamic voltage swings, the power supply moves in perfect real-time synchronisation, eliminating the sag and rebound artifacts that compromise conventional designs. The sonic result of this marriage between a purist SET stage and the NOIES power structure is extraordinary.
