Aries Cerat — Pre Amplifiers

Virgo

A cost-no-object SET preamplifier defining the pinnacle of the Legend Series.

To build a preamplifier without compromise requires discarding conventional constraints of size, weight, and component cost. The Aries Cerat Virgo stands as the flagship of the Legend Series, representing a pure cost-no-object execution of a parallel triode single-ended topology. At its core, the Virgo utilises a dual-parallel SET circuit built around E280F supertubes. Rather than relying on traditional capacitive or resistive coupling, the output stage is tethered to a bespoke nanocrystalline-core bifilar transformer. This is supported by massive film capacitors that provide instantaneous current delivery with near-zero equivalent series resistance, resulting in dynamic headroom that dwarfs the requirements of any associated amplifier. The Virgo draws its formidable performance from a completely separate, dual-mono power supply chassis. High-voltage rails are driven by a bank of xenon rectifiers, which combine the current delivery and low voltage sag of solid-state devices with the zero switching noise of vacuum tubes. A meticulously filtered negative bias supply, rectified by damper diodes, ensures the signal emerges from an absolute void. Sonically, the Virgo delivers supreme linearity, vast bandwidth, and an unshakeable grip over the musical foundation. It provides listeners with an expansive, profoundly structured soundstage and a dynamic authority that breathes visceral life into every recording, imposing no ceiling on the capabilities of the elite amplifiers it commands.

Key Features

01

Xenon Tube Rectification

The external power supply utilises extremely high-current 3B28 xenon rectifiers for the high-voltage rails, providing the low sag of solid-state designs without any switching noise.

02

Nanocrystalline Output Transformers

The dual-parallel SET circuit drives bespoke nanocrystalline-core bifilar output transformers, ensuring superlative linearity, immense bandwidth, and effortless signal transfer.

03

Film SuperCapacitor Decoupling

Zero electrolytic capacitors are used in the main unit. Instead, massive custom film SuperCapacitors provide up to 10,000 amperes of instant current delivery with a microscopic 1.5mOhm resistance.

04

Transformer Volume Control

Signal attenuation is achieved through specially wound multi-tap input transformers, utilising an array of ultra-low noise latching relays that power down when inactive.

05

Adjustable On-The-Fly Bias

An elaborate tube-rectified bias system supplies a supremely clean negative voltage to the output stage, complete with dual front-panel meters for precise real-time monitoring.

The Legend Series Statement

Chapter 01

The Legend Series Statement

The Virgo was conceived to prove what is possible when a simple, elegant parallel single-ended triode circuit is executed without financial or physical limitations. Part of Aries Cerat’s ultimate Legend Series, it is a statement piece built across two monolithic chassis. By physically separating the delicate E280F supertube gain stage from the immense magnetic fields of the xenon-rectified power supply, the Virgo achieves an astonishing unweighted noise floor of less than -120dB.
Uncompromising Power Architecture

Chapter 02

Uncompromising Power Architecture

Power delivery defines transient speed and dynamic realism. The dual-mono external power supply of the Virgo discards standard rectification entirely. The high voltage rails rely on xenon gas rectifiers, components prized for their mercury-vapour-like performance without the associated instability. Concurrently, the critical negative bias circuits are tube-rectified via 6AU4 damper diodes, ensuring the delicate bias voltage remains perfectly silent. The complete absence of electrolytic capacitors further guarantees absolute long-term stability and unmatched transient immediacy.
Magnetic Attenuation

Chapter 03

Magnetic Attenuation

Traditional resistive volume potentiometers compress dynamics and alter the frequency response at lower listening levels. Aries Cerat solves this by implementing a purely magnetic volume control system. The Virgo uses specially wound multi-tap input transformers to attenuate the signal, switching between the secondary taps via an array of ultra-low noise latching relays. Because these relays only draw power during the exact moment they change state, absolutely no electrical noise bleeds into the delicate audio signal.
