MJ Acoustics — Home Theatre Subwoofers

Reference I MkIII active sub bass system

Authoritative sub-bass precision and flexibility for demanding home theatre environments.

The Reference I MkIII stands as a cornerstone of the MJ Acoustics range, engineered to provide the muscle and agility required for the most complex cinematic soundtracks and detailed musical passages. Despite its relatively compact footprint, this powerhouse consistently belies its stature, delivering a deep, immersive soundstage that transforms the home cinema experience. At its heart lies a 250mm ultra long-throw driver, housed within a critically damped, ported cabinet constructed from inert 18mm and 25mm MDF. This bass engine is powered by a high-current 250-watt MOSFET amplifier, ensuring that every transient is handled with surgical precision. By avoiding digital signal processing in favour of a pure, meticulously tuned analogue path, the system maintains perfect phase coherence with your main speakers. The Reference I MkIII is defined by its extensive controllability. Featuring an intuitive digital display and a comprehensive remote control system, users can fine-tune every parameter—including crossover, gain, and phase—from the listening position. With four user-definable presets, you can effortlessly switch between optimised configurations for film, music, or specific acoustic environments, ensuring optimal performance at all times.

Key Features

01

Ultra Long-Throw Driver

The 250mm driver features a heavy-duty chassis and double-magnet assembly, ensuring high-amplitude movement with minimal distortion.

02

D.A.M.P. 3rd Generation

Our digitally accurate microprocessor-controlled crossover allows for 1Hz adjustments and 1dB gain increments for flawless system matching.

03

Remote Positioning Control

Full setup and recall of four user-defined presets can be managed from the listening position via the supplied remote control.

04

Twin Crossover Circuits

Independent filter circuits allow for simultaneous, separate configuration of high-level stereo signals and LFE cinema effects.

Chapter 01

Design & Philosophy

MJ Acoustics subwoofers are designed as active sub-bass systems rather than traditional subwoofers. By prioritising high-impedance, high-level inputs, the Reference I MkIII mirrors the signal sent to your main loudspeakers, ensuring the sub-bass remains a natural, seamless extension of your primary audio system.

Chapter 02

Build & Materials

The cabinet is constructed from inert, high-density MDF to suppress structural resonance. This rigid foundation, combined with a bespoke ported configuration, allows the 250mm bass engine to operate with maximum efficiency, translating raw electrical power into clean, room-pressurising acoustic energy.

Chapter 03

Sonic Signature

This model is celebrated for its ability to resolve the lowest octaves with exceptional clarity. It avoids the common trap of 'one-note' bass, instead providing a taut, tuneful foundation that uncovers the texture of complex bass lines and the visceral, tactile impact of high-end cinema special effects.
