The Dragon Legends replaces the Dragon, which occupied the flagship position for more than ten years. Its design principle is a natural evolution of the Dragon in technology as well as in aesthetics. The Dragon Legend is made entirely in Denmark.

Standing tall in the room, the Dragon Legends have a commanding presence in size and in looks. Aesthetically, they are the epitome Northern European classic elegance, combining classic wood work combined with high gloss piano finish reminiscent of modern pianos. The timeless classical design of the Dragon Legends blends in nicely in any interior. Aesthetically, the Dragon Legend’s classic design will not fade over time.

The drive Units

The mid and bass drivers

All drive units at PEAK are tailor made to fit the acoustics of each specific model 100%. This is very rare now a days as most manufactures order drive units out of a brochure. The drivers are extremely fast and move without any dynamic compression due to the mechanical construction and rear ventilation. These drive units are all build by hand in Denmark.

Special high lights are the following technologies:

  • One piece molded sandwich cone which has very few breakups and the ideal stiffness, damping. Resulting in an outstanding drive unit to achieve our goals.

  • Flow optimized die cast basket with and internal magnet systems, that makes the drive unit start and stop much faster.

  • Kapton voice coil former with aluminum wire and hexacoil winding techniche. This make the motor much light than traditional units and it can easier get rid of heat.

In the Serinity Line the tweeters takes this to another level:

  • Some drive units use a combination of Kapton and aluminum voice coil to achieve extraordinary result in performance.

  • Almost unlimited power handling due to the extreme construction.

The benefits from PEAK drive units are:

  • Ideal sound characteristics

  • Balanced and smooth frequency spectrum with no coloration

  • Extremely low distortion

  • Superb impulse response and dynamics

  • Zero-compression reproduction,

  • Very even sound dispersion characteristics

  • Absolute precision at high and low volume

  • Genuine and natural reproduction of the original source

Naturally the PEAK drive units features a wealth of advanced technologies, materials and sophisticated designs. But it always comes down to this; a loudspeaker should not have a sound at all and should ONLY reproduce the sound that flows through it without adding or losing anything. The PEAK tweeter do that better than any other we know of!

The Tweeters

All PEAK speaker systems include a 26 mm silk soft dome tweeter of the highest possible quality. In order to achieve this quality, these tweeters are handmade in Denmark by the best craftsmen to the highest precision.

Special high lights are the following technologies:

  • A large roll surround and textile dome diaphragm provides a flat frequency response to above 30KHz with outstanding off-axis dispersion.

  • The unique magnet system consists of 6 neodymium magnets in a certain configuration that is far superior to the performance of traditional motors.

  • A special rear chamber that results in elimination of reflections and resonances

  • Each tweeter is matched in pairs within 0,1 dB

In the Serinity Line the tweeters takes this to another level:

  • Each tweeter is matched to an unprecedented 0,05 dB!

  • The rear chambers increased size further dampens resonances. And behind the ventilation of the tweeter is a piece of special wood that completely eliminates any resonance that might be left.

The PEAK Cabinets

The master hands at PEAK craft some of the finest cabinets in the world. They basically have two goals:

  • They have to be beautifully crafted so they will their best in you room

  • They have dampen resonances, vibration and microphonics

The Function

Our cabinets are extremely heavy. Just look at the weight, it will most likely surplice you, as this is not normal. We use only HDF (High Density Fiberboard), not MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) like most other manufactures do. This dampens resonances more effective. In fact, PEAK speakers have up to 10 times less resonances and vibration than normal high end speakers. This translates to very heavy speakers. Needless to say, this is also very expensive to do. Which is why most manufactures don’t.

The front of the speaker is 3 layers of HDF, which has been glued together. We spend many our listing to even what difference the glue makes to sound, because it does affect the sound. We have tried carbon and other new materials, but these prove not very good for cabinets. This is way we go with the best option there is: HDF.

PEAK’s heavy, stiff and well build cabinets have the following improvements on the sound:

  • Very little or no coloration of the sound

  • Deep controlled bass

  • Much better imaging

The Finish

Virtually all other high end speakers use wood veneers. Not so at PEAK. Only solid hard woood is used(!). This can be up to 2” thick. This is truly remarkable and a testament to the way PEAK design and craft loudspeakers in the ultimate quality. The hard wood surface are then sanded 4 times and oiled 5 to give a very premium feel and look.

All sold wood comes from certified sustainable woods and are in the absolute highest quality available.

As the cabinets are produced in-house there are many options for customization if the customer should wish a different type of wood than normal available. However this of course come with increased lead time and premiums.

All PEAK speakers use imitated leather on front. This is improves diffraction and improves the loudspeakers ability to completely vanish in the imaging. The use of real lether would not be possible as there are imperfections and it does not handle UV very well.

Cabinets for the Serinity Line

The cabinets for this line are the most extreme PEAK crafts. They have no audible resonances in audible spectrum. This is an outstanding achievement for cabinets in this size. This translates to superior sound quality as the sound becomes less colored and distorted.

"These cabinets define inert, with the woofers, each midrange driver and the tweeter all having its own individual cabinet made from 1.5 – inch to 3 inch thick HDF board covered by another inch of solid acrylic, with additional resonance supressors milled into the cabinetry. If that weren’t enough, there are no parallel surfaces to be found anywhere with these enclosures."

Review of the Kepheus by ToneAudio

"Clearly, its build and parts qualities are high, but to really appreciate the Diablo's workmanship and exquisite finish—and its price—you need to see it close up and run your hands across the stunning woodwork. Photos just don't do it justice."

The Crossover

Four our crossover we have always used the best possible components. Especially so in the Serinity Line. At this stage one component can cost thousands of dollars. But we developed our own components to superceed theses expesive exotic components. And they are now being build by our selves in-house.

Please just look at the crossover for the Dragon in the photos below. Each component is shielded in its own box creating a crossover that is almost 2 meters wide.

I all of our crossovers no soldering is used in the signal path. It is hardwired and soldering is only used as a locking mechanism.

The internal filtering is custom made for our speakers.

 PEAK Liniear Impedance Correction

With this correction of the impedance, almost any amplifier can driver the speakers. But more importantly, it can make the amplifier perform at its absolute best.

"But most important, and perhaps because of that high crossover frequency, instrumental harmonic structures, and especially the human voice, were exceptionally lifelike and coherent. I can't think of a loudspeaker that better reproduces instrumental and vocal touches and textures. I could consistently rely on the Diablos to provide long evenings' worth of entertainment without producing boredom or fatigue. They always invited me in and never pushed me away."

The Binding Posts

At PEAK, we cannot imagine anything worse than a signal path filled with brass, solder and other things that are cheap to build and degrades the sound quality. We prefer not to take any short cuts, but do it the hard, expensive and superior way.

Therefore the perfect way for the signal to enter any PEAK loudspeaker is through these custom build high end binding posts. No brass, no bronze and soldering in the signal path. Just prestine sound.

Optimized conductive binding posts:

  • From the inside the internal wiring is only crimped onto the binding post. No soldering in the signal path.

  • Pure copper with silver plating providing high conductivity (4-8 times higher than brass/Bronze).

  • Low mass/thin walled conductive part.

  • Higher cross-section than competing low mass designs.

 New and innovative mechanical design:

  • High contact pressure due to optimized thread design.

  • Easy to tighten by hand and high contact pressure will be achieved.

  • High strength glass reinforced polymer used for nonconductive part to provide a unique combination of mechanical strength, high heat tolerance and low dielectric constant.

  • Solid aluminum “handle” with PEAK laser engraving.
