SERENDIPITY

The five-way acoustic masterpiece defining the pinnacle of Italian loudspeaker engineering.

The Serendipity commands the listening room with an imposing architectural grace, presenting an hourglass silhouette hewn from meticulously aged solid walnut. It stands as the magnum opus of the Academy line, representing the culmination of over four decades of acoustic research into psychoacoustics and room interactions. By dividing the physical structure into two decoupled enclosures, mechanical energy is strictly controlled. The lower cabinet harnesses twin 320-millimetre down-firing subwoofers in an isobaric configuration, while the upper section utilises a reversed vertical alignment to meticulously govern the dispersion of mid and high frequencies. Sonically, the Serendipity is an instrument of profound scale and unrestrained dynamics. It reproduces the lowest octaves with absolute composure, yet its defining trait is the remarkably natural midrange and an expansive, three-dimensional soundstage. It demands high-current amplification and ample breathing room, rewarding the listener with an effortlessly transparent and physical musical presentation.

Key Features

01

Reversed vertical alignment

By inverting the traditional driver layout, this proprietary geometry actively manages floor reflections and controls high-frequency dispersion. The result is a more precise soundstage and highly focused imaging at the listening position.

02

Isobaric subwoofer system

The lower enclosure houses two downward-firing 320-millimetre natural fibre subwoofers in a vented isobaric arrangement. This complex loading technique extends bass response down to a staggering 23 hertz while eliminating port turbulence.

03

Composite foam drivers

The midrange and woofer cones employ a lightweight yet exceptionally rigid composite material. Paired with neodymium motors, these drivers offer lightning-fast transient response and vanishingly low distortion.

04

Decoupled dual-enclosure cabinet

To prevent low-frequency energy from corrupting delicate high notes, the upper and lower cabinets are physically separated. Four proprietary cylindrical elastomer dampers dissipate unwanted mechanical vibrations through orthogonal elongation.

Chapter 01

Acoustic architecture and driver synergy

The five-way design is meticulously orchestrated across a complex crossover network with overlapping points. High frequencies are entrusted to a 32-millimetre soft dome tweeter, blending seamlessly into the composite midrange and upper bass drivers. This array is positioned in a reversed vertical configuration, tailored to optimise phase coherence for a seated listener. Deep bass is governed by a proprietary downward-firing acoustic load. By directing the dual subwoofers toward the floor, the system exploits boundary reinforcement to generate a perfectly hemispherical radiation pattern, achieving tremendous low-end impact without sacrificing speed or texture.

Chapter 02

Amplification and room integration

Given its substantial mass and immense bandwidth, the Serendipity is an uncompromising transducer that requires careful system matching. While its high sensitivity suggests ease of drive, the nominal four-ohm impedance and complex driver load demand high-current solid-state or exceptionally robust valve amplification to fully control the isobaric bass system. Placement is equally critical. For the reversed array and down-firing subwoofers to lock into focus, the manufacturer recommends placing the speakers on a carpeted floor, well away from any side or rear boundary, with a modest toe-in towards the listening position. When properly sited, the physical cabinets effectively vanish, leaving only a massive, effortless musical performance.
