SOVRAN

Architectural dual-enclosure engineering altering low-frequency wave propagation in smaller environments.

The Chario Sovran shifts the parameters of floorstanding speaker performance by separating structural mass from acoustic energy. Its commanding physical presence is defined by a striking split-cabinet configuration crafted from solid Italian timbers. Rather than imposing itself onto domestic architecture, the design uses geometric calculation to isolate critical mid-high frequencies from heavy low-end forces. Positioned just beneath the flagship model within Chario's elite Academy S line, the Sovran introduces highly specialized low-frequency management tailored for real-world listening rooms. The structure relies on two completely independent enclosures separated by engineered mechanical dampers that isolate vibrational energy. This mechanical topology targets room-mode peaks and dips without sacrificing transient responsiveness or dynamic headroom. Sonically, the Sovran delivers an analytical, beautifully focused presentation that avoids typical warm, romantic colorations. The lower range behaves with exceptional agility, providing a clear and tightly controlled low-frequency foundation that remains free from artificial bloat or overhang. Instruments and vocalists occupy highly stable positions within a deeply layered three-dimensional stage.

Key Features

01

Acoustic doublet radiation

A proprietary layout that controls energy diffusion at low frequencies, maximizing direct sound waves while minimizing disruptive side-wall reflections.

02

Two-box mechanical isolation

The separate mid-high and subwoofer enclosures are decoupled by four elastomeric puffers that dissipate energy through orthogonal elongation.

03

Vented isobaric subwoofer load

Two 200 mm natural fiber drivers are mounted cone-to-cone inside the lower tower, wired out of phase to act as a single low-distortion sub-bass system.

04

Reversed vertical array

Placing the 170 mm Rohacell midrange driver above the 32 mm Silversoft tweeter provides an ideal angle for modeling energy response around the crossover region.

Chapter 01

The Decoupled Architecture

Mechanical energy generated by large low-frequency drivers is a primary source of distortion in full-range speakers. The Sovran addresses this by containing its dual 200 mm subwoofers entirely within a heavy bottom enclosure. The upper mid-high monitor rests on top, completely isolated by proprietary cylindrical elastomer dampers. This arrangement prevents vibrations from traveling upward, allowing the tweeter and midrange driver to oscillate precisely around their natural rest points.

Chapter 02

Precision Cabinet Craftsmanship

Natural solid wood moves and shifts according to atmospheric variations in humidity and temperature. To prevent internal tension and joint failure, Chario master craftsmen utilize a strict six-month wood drying phase and precision cuts before manual assembly. This solid timber shell is permanently bonded to an inner core of high-density fiberboard, forming an inert housing designed to endure for decades.

Chapter 03

Room Integration & Set-up

The Sovran is engineered to perform predictably in medium to small listening spaces where large speakers typically suffer from muddy bass accumulation. The bi-dimensional hyper-exponential hourglass port fires downward to distribute air pressure evenly. For optimal imaging focus, the speakers should be placed at least one meter away from side boundaries and tilted inward directly toward the listener.
