Reference 150 MkII active sub bass system

Authoritative sub-bass precision defined by analogue mastery and refined cabinet acoustics.

The Reference 150 MkII represents a sophisticated evolution of the sub-bass system, engineered specifically for those who demand that the lowest octaves remain as transparent and fast as the primary speakers. As a core member of the Reference series, it eschews digital signal processing in favour of a pure analogue signal path, ensuring that your music and cinema experiences remain free from latency and conversion artefacts. At the heart of the design is a 150-watt linear Class A/B MOSFET amplifier and a custom-designed 250mm ultra long-throw driver. This robust engine is housed within a critically damped, inert cabinet constructed from high-grade MDF, which provides the necessary rigidity to handle high-energy transients without resonant colouration. What truly distinguishes this model is its ability to blend into a high-end system with surgical accuracy. By utilising twin independent crossover filters, the unit allows for separate adjustments to LFE effects and high-level music signals, ensuring the subwoofer does not simply provide volume, but acts as a seamless foundation for the entire frequency spectrum.

Key Features

01

DAMP 3rd Gen Crossover

This digitally accurate, microprocessor-controlled crossover allows for 1Hz frequency adjustments and 1dB gain increments for flawless integration.

02

Twin Independent Inputs

Separate high-level and LFE inputs allow for simultaneous connection to both stereo and cinema systems with independent settings for each.

03

Remote Positioning Control

All key parameters, including volume, crossover frequency, and phase, can be adjusted via remote from the listening position with four user-definable memory presets.

04

Pure Analogue Signal Path

The absence of DSP ensures no group delay or latency, maintaining perfect phase coherence with the main loudspeakers.

Chapter 01

Engineering Philosophy

MJ Acoustics maintains that a subwoofer must be an extension of the main system rather than a separate entity. By rejecting DSP and opting for a high-impedance high-level input, the Reference 150 MkII monitors the voltage signal sent to the main speakers, ensuring the sub-bass output is perfectly synchronised in timing and character.

Chapter 02

Build Quality

The cabinet is constructed from inert, high-density MDF to eliminate structural resonance. The driver features a durable rubber surround and a heavy-duty chassis, ensuring that even at high output levels, the mechanical performance remains linear and free from the distortion common in lesser designs.

Chapter 03

Sonic Performance

Expect a taut, musical presentation that prioritises texture and speed over forced impact. The Reference 150 MkII excels at uncovering the subtle decay and weight of acoustic instruments, providing a foundation that makes high-end speakers sound larger and more authoritative without ever feeling bloated.
