JT80LB
Refined moving magnet performance celebrating eight decades of Japanese analog excellence.
Released to mark Nagaoka’s 80th anniversary, the JT-80LB serves as the foundational model in the new Jeweltone series. It represents a significant evolution in design, departing from the brand's traditional Moving Permalloy focus to embrace a contemporary moving magnet architecture that provides a fresh perspective on the classic Nagaoka sound.
Positioned as a high-performance entry point, the JT-80LB is crafted for versatility across a wide range of musical genres, from modern jazz to intricate pop arrangements. By integrating the headshell screws directly into the body and utilising a lightweight ABS resin housing, the design effectively mitigates unwanted resonance, ensuring a cleaner and more stable signal transmission.
Sonically, the cartridge is defined by its ability to resolve fine detail while maintaining the trademark Nagaoka warmth. It presents a cohesive and fatigue-free listening experience, where the articulation of the mid-range is perfectly complemented by a tight, authoritative low end and smooth, extended treble response. It is a compelling choice for those seeking a reliable, high-fidelity upgrade for their vinyl system.
Key Features
01
Integrated Mounting Design
Features threaded bolt holes for straightforward installation and improved mechanical rigidity compared to standard designs.
02
Precision Cantilever Assembly
Equipped with a high-quality aluminium alloy cantilever and a 0.4 × 0.7 mil elliptical diamond tip for accurate groove tracing.
03
Resonance-Controlled Housing
The lightweight ABS resin body is engineered to reduce internal vibration, ensuring the stylus maintains optimal contact with the record.
Chapter 01
Design Evolution
The JT-80LB represents a departure from Nagaoka’s long-standing MP series, utilising a new magnetic circuit specifically tuned for moving magnet performance. The slender, block-like form is intended to provide a seamless visual and mechanical continuity from the tonearm headshell down to the stylus tip, minimising parts count to reduce structural vibration.
Chapter 02
Engineering Precision
Nagaoka’s attention to detail is evident in the selection of damping materials and core alloys. By precisely matching the compliance of the rubber damper to the aluminium cantilever, the engineers achieved a highly stable dynamic balance that allows for consistent performance and long-term durability.
Chapter 03
Listening Notes
Users will immediately notice the JT-80LB’s ability to separate instruments within a busy mix. It avoids the clinical, overly analytical sound of many modern cartridges, opting instead for a textured and inviting presentation that makes long listening sessions rewarding.
