the MP-MONO / MP-MONO 1.0E
Dedicated mono performance for authentic reproduction of your monophonic vinyl collection.
True monaural playback requires a cartridge that respects the simplicity and integrity of the original recording. The MP-MONO stands as a specialised evolution within the renowned MP series, engineered specifically to extract the full potential of mono discs by focusing exclusively on lateral groove movement, thereby reducing vertical noise and distortion.
Positioned as the definitive choice for the mono enthusiast, this model offers a dual-path approach to historical accuracy. The standard 0.7 mil stylus is optimised for modern mono pressings, providing a high-resolution, well-defined sound. For those dedicated to the golden era of the 1940s and 1950s, the optional 1.0 mil stylus captures the specific atmospheric depth and tonal character of early records.
The sonic signature is one of remarkable coherence and natural warmth. By accurately tracking the groove geometry of the era, the MP-MONO delivers a focused soundstage and a rich, authoritative midrange. It successfully bridges the gap between clinical modern precision and the evocative, authentic character of classic monophonic sound fields.

Chapter 01
Design & Philosophy
Nagaoka developed the MP-MONO to address the resurgence of interest in monaural recordings. Recognising that modern stereo cartridges cannot capture the specific nuances of vintage mono cuts, the design team focused on horizontal modulation tracking to present the recording exactly as the engineer intended, maintaining the dense and impactful sound characteristic of mono.

Chapter 02
Build & Materials
The cartridge body is constructed from robust ABS resin, chosen for its vibration-damping properties. Each unit is built with Nagaoka's signature Japanese manufacturing precision, ensuring long-term reliability and consistent performance whether used for daily listening or archive-grade archival work.

Chapter 03
Listening Notes
The MP-MONO does not sound thin or old-fashioned. Instead, it provides a surprisingly fresh, wide-open presentation. Using the 1.0 mil stylus, listeners will notice a significant improvement in mid-bass weight and overall atmospheric presence, making it indispensable for early jazz, blues, and orchestral mono records.
