MC transformer

Precision-engineered passive gain for the world's finest moving coil cartridges.

The NAT MC transformer series represents the definitive interface between the delicate signal of a moving coil cartridge and your amplification chain. By utilising a bespoke multifilar winding technique on high-performance nano-crystalline cores, NAT has eliminated channel mismatch entirely, delivering an identical gain profile across both channels to preserve spatial integrity. Designed as a purely passive solution, these units require no external power, drawing no current and injecting no noise into the sensitive signal path. The architecture prioritises absolute signal purity, employing a triple-shielding strategy that combines mu-metal, heavy-gauge copper plates, and a robust aluminium chassis to reject external electromagnetic pollution. Each model—MCX, MCXX, and MCXXX—is meticulously hand-coiled to offer specific gain stages suitable for an array of cartridge outputs. The sound is characterised by a profound sense of ease, revealing low-level information and harmonic textures that active electronic gain stages often obscure. It is an essential component for the dedicated vinyl enthusiast seeking the transparency of a direct, transformer-coupled connection.

Key Features

01

Nano-crystalline cores

High-efficiency magnetic cores ensure exceptional linearity and a wide, stable frequency response.

02

Zero channel mismatch

Proprietary multifilar winding technique guarantees 0 dB gain variance between the left and right channels.

03

Triple shielding

Mu-metal and double 4mm copper plates provide superior immunity to environmental electromagnetic interference.

04

Flexible loading

Integrated parallel input RCA connectors allow for precise fine-tuning of cartridge load resistance.

Chapter 01

Engineering Philosophy

NAT Audio eschews complex active circuitry in favour of the passive purity of the step-up transformer. By maintaining a zero-feedback, passive signal path, the MC series avoids the colouration and noise floor limitations inherent in electronic head amplifiers. Every transformer is hand-wound to exact tolerances, ensuring the cartridge signal remains entirely unaltered until it reaches your phono stage.

Chapter 02

Build Quality

The construction reflects a military-grade approach to audio reproduction. The internal transformer is encased in a multi-layered shield that acts as a fortress against interference, while the external aluminium chassis provides mechanical damping. The result is a substantial, inert component that feels as precise as the electrical signal it facilitates.

Chapter 03

Sonic Character

These transformers provide a remarkably natural and fluid presentation. They are defined by a total lack of electronic grain, allowing for an expansive, holographic soundstage. Because they are passive, they offer a sense of blackness and silence that serves as the perfect foundation for high-resolution analogue playback.
