The A-1 ver.2 serves as the essential control hub of the Soulnote Series 1, embodying a philosophy where technical measurements are subordinate to natural musical vitality. By eliminating negative feedback and removing all unnecessary contacts from the signal path, this amplifier preserves the delicate temporal cues of the original recording, ensuring music sounds immediate and unconstrained. At its core, the A-1 ver.2 employs a high-performance single push-pull output stage utilising powerful TO-3P transistors in a four-stage Darlington configuration. This design allows for controlled, high-current delivery that belies its modest wattage, ensuring stable performance even when partnered with complex, modern loudspeaker loads. Sonically, the amplifier is defined by a sense of effortless clarity, expansive spatial imaging, and a notable lack of artificial colouration. Mechanical Tuning

Rather than attempting to dampen vibrations through sheer mass or rigid bracing, the A-1 ver.2 uses controlled resonance. By positioning the spike feet directly beneath the centre of gravity of the power transformer, mechanical energy is discharged effectively outside the chassis without interfering with the delicate amplification stages. This approach, combined with an unfixed top cover, ensures that the amplifier breathes naturally, resulting in the expansive and high-resolution sound characteristic of the Soulnote house style.

The Power Architecture

The ver.2 iteration introduces a newly developed bias circuit that significantly improves the signal-to-noise ratio over the previous generation. This is supported by a bespoke, non-impregnated toroidal transformer that provides instantaneous current on demand. Every aspect of the power supply—from the fast-recovery rectifier diodes to the placement of filter condensers—is optimised to keep current loops as short as possible, ensuring the amplifier remains fast, stable, and remarkably quiet.

Pure Signal Path

Every connector in the signal path has been removed in favour of a completely contactless construction. By utilising three-dimensional circuit board assembly and star-ground wiring, Soulnote maintains low impedance and eliminates concerns regarding contact degradation. This minimalist, direct-coupled design ensures that the signal remains unadulterated from the balanced XLR or RCA inputs through to the loudspeaker terminals.
